Gimara Duncan-Rice
Australian-British artist, Gimara's art practice is based in regional Queensland on the wee island of Boyne. Prior to this it was located in Hertfordshire, UK. She embraces multiple forms of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, storytelling, and printmaking. Through these processes she specialises in figurative and academic art.
Her oveure covers multiple genres, cross-pollinating the life events that have shaped her life. Subjects include: the female experience, working class roots, the scientific eye, ancestry, and the diversity of global colour palettes & forms.
Her interest in printmaking started during school days, where she learnt relief and screen printing. Later she received training in etching at the Royal Drawing School, wood engraving at the Slade School of Fine Art and Japanese woodcut printmaking at Morley College, London.
She was recently a recipient of artists grants from Metal Artists Programme (2021-2022) and Axis Arts & the Social Art Library (2019).
Until her return to Australia, Gimara was a lecturer of 'Drawing and Painting' at North Hertfordshire College, Hitchin, UK. She was a print member of The Forge (Digswell Arts Trust, UK), where she hosted open access print workshops. She has led drawing, painting or printmaking workshops for variety of clients, including colleges, museums and councils.
Additionally, she has peer reviewed museum exhibitions (e.g. The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge) and consulted on the development of strategic programs for museums (e.g. the Museum Association, UK).
