Worn / Enchanted

Worn Enchanted

Alys Mendus (she/her) 2024

2 Lino prints pressed by hand with a spoon, hand sewn wool felt gnomes with eco printed clothes and clothes line.

Alys created these magical boxes as an invitation to play with the enchanted. Influenced by the work of Phoebe Wahl into inclusive and diverse fairy folk and Beatrix Potters's Mrs.Tiggywinkle hanging up the washing in her little house alongside my experience making Waldorf dolls from Natalie Truster Alys wanted to create a space of wonder. Having recently moved to Victoria this piece was made whilst housesitting on Wadawarrung Country printing each Lino plate by hand.

Artist's Work

Ephemeral / Pastel

Wetlands at Keppel Sands

Amanda Watson Lawrence 2024

Relief print & Oil Pastel

The Wetlands at Keppel Sands are a combination of perennial and ephemeral. The ephemeral section is visible from the road and, whenever it is present, there is something new to sea each day as I travel to and from work.

Artist's Work

Home / Layers

The one with the poincianas

Belinda McGrath 2024

Lino and screen print on fabric

Memories of time spent at my grandparents' home.

Climbing the poinciana tree and sitting beneath it whilst Pop would split kindling for the woodstove. Stealing dolly pegs from the laundry basket to make little people to play with.

The clothesline is a symbol of these childhood memories. It echoes of laughter, a whisper of adventure, and simple moments of comfort and safety.

This piece invites you to reflect on your own layered memories, discovering the beauty and depth in the seemingly ordinary moments of your childhood.

My sister dream of tropical flower (lives in Switzerland), I would be happy to show her all tropical Nature.

Artist's Work

Quiet / Frenzy

Quiet Frenzy - Wallpapering the Tree House

Carmel Knowles 2024

Hand coloured lino print

The quiet frenzy seen in the property market in recent years has had an impact on the availability of rental properties and the cost of rentals, not just the affordability of buying a home. While the purchase of house property is seen as part of an investment portfolio for some, the opportunity for many to afford a home is diminished. Alternative 'homes' like tents, cars, horse floats, tree houses etc are not ideal solutions.

Artist's Work

Moment / Patterns

Moment + Patterns

Emma Scragg 2024

Lino print on paper

The regional town of Monto turns 100 this year and is believed to be Queensland's first planned town. This lino print encapsulates the radiating town plan of 1924 and art deco icons incorporated in the town's buildings which soon followed. The tondo format picks up on the semi-circular town layout and architectural motifs and also makes reference to time.

Book / Forest

Mulga (life blood of the south west)

Erin O'Shannessy 2024

Silk screen print on ecoprinted paper.

Mulga is a tree and type of forest that thrives in the red soil of south-west Queensland. Mulga is valued for its hardiness and versatility and is often used as an emblem of the south-west.

The artist grew up in Charleville, strongly rejecting their country roots, insisting that their life was going to be bolder than the small town. Nonetheless, if the book was to be written about their life, it would begin in red soil and mulga trees.

The pages for the project were mordanted in a mixture of red dirt and Warrego water and printed with mulga and eucalypt leaves, all collected from Charleville. The images printed on the pages come from the family photo album- the only book currently detailing the artist's supposed rise to greatness.

Artist's Work

Creation / Satellite

the starlink phenomenon

Jan Ward 2024

Oil and silver leaf on Saunders Waterford 300gsm. Carborundum relief print

I have become aware of a modern phenomenon: Starlink satellite trains that service global internet connection. Traveling at the same altitude and speed, these satellites initially orbit the Earth in a cluster. Starlink satellites appear as a "train" of lights for several days after launch. During this time, they're easily visible to the naked eye. This regimented man-made activity against the spectacular randomness of our starry skies was what intrigued me to make this piece.

Artist's Work

Point / Time

Point & Time

Kate Lacy 2024

Lino print

When I saw my first bush stone-curlew I was absolutely mesmerised. I can remember exactly where I was, its peculiar characteristics, the huge nocturnal eyes and fantastic stick-like legs. Later, after I had delved into photography, I was able to catch this one looking back at me from between its legs out on Konomie Island. It was an easy decision to use this stance as an example of the quirky nature of these wonderful birds in a reduction print.

Artist's Work

Foundation / Spaciousness

Little Black Dress

Lisa Jocumsen 2024

Lino print

The little black dress is frmly grounded in style. In its simplest form, it is elegant. It can withstand any colour or glitz thrown at it. A true foundation piece. When is a little black dress not a little black dress? Size does not matter. Space matters. No space, then it is 'The Little Black Dress'.

Whispering Eucalyptus

Michelle Black 2024

Linoprint on eucalyptus-dyed 100% cotton Fabriano Tiepolo paper. Diptych

There is a beauty in the Australian landscape, the quintessential eucalyptus is ever-present. Narrow leaves droop in the heat and whisper in the breeze, becoming a silhouette as the sun goes down over the ancient land. Fluffy blooms announce the arrival of spring and the the noisily chattering parrots.

This work has been printed on eucalyptus-dyed paper, with an imprint from the leaves, buds and flowers that were used first as inspiration and then boiled in ground water and alum to create a liquor to stain the paper over 24-hours. Please hang away from direct sunlight.

Reg has worked his tail feathers off creating an enticing bower, he was so pleased to use some of his fabric and button stash to decorate the entrance, he has high hopes that this bower will lure a pretty female. As well, he has developed a new dance routine to seduce a lucky female who enters the avenue.

Artist's Work

Soaring / Oceans

Into the Blue

Phillipa Sturgess 2024

Cyanotype silk, Screen print

This work seeks to capture the experience of looking into the ocean, although the ocean is now above instead of below the viewer. I chose cyanotype dyeing for its distinctive blue colour and silk to echo the soft movement of the water. The fish just appeared, as they often do when you look into the ocean.

Artist's Work

Freedom / Texture

Freedom isn't free...

Ricardo Wilmshurst 2024

Linocut

What is the texture of freedom?

The freedoms we enjoy in the global north overwhelmingly come at the cost of lives and exploitation in the global south. Technologies integral to modern life rely on those enslaved to mine lithium and cobalt. Alarmingly, there are more people enslaved now than at the height of the Atlantic slave trade.

The concept of an endless expanding pattern and bones illustrates the vastness of this texture and reminds us that, regardless of religion, culture or skin colour, we are all the same inside.

Through this lens, I invite viewers to reflect on the true cost of freedom and consider how we might collectively work toward a more just and equitable world.

Artist's Work

Geometric / Abundance

Geometric Abundance

Sarah Larsen 2024

Collage and mixed media on canvas

I love my two words, Geometric Abundance, and on receiving them knew exactly what my artwork would be.!
